A Legacy of Craftsmanship
John Kingsmill is the founder and principal artisan behind Kingsmill Architectural Finishes, bringing more than three decades of experience to the decorative and architectural plaster arts.
From 1990 to 1993, John trained extensively with European masters in the decorative arts, building a foundation rooted in traditional craftsmanship, historical techniques, and disciplined design principles. He later studied the Fundamentals of Design at the International School of Design in Toronto, further refining his understanding of form, proportion, and architectural harmony.
In 1998, John was commissioned by Akzo Nobel to train in Italy in the application of their Venetian plaster products, becoming instrumental in introducing and advancing Venetian plaster techniques in Canada. The following year, in 1999, he completed a landmark hand-carved plaster installation for what was then the largest restaurant in America—sculpting an immersive 19th-century Provençal village entirely in plaster.
John is a certified color-trained specialist through the Eiseman Institute, allowing him to integrate advanced color theory into architectural finishes with precision and intention.
Since 2004, John has focused on developing innovative plaster products that address long-standing technical challenges within Venetian plaster applications. His work has been featured in over 110 large estate homes, where Venetian plaster serves not as decoration, but as a refined architectural finish—timeless, durable, and deeply connected to classical tradition.
Today, through Kingsmill Architectural Finishes, John Kingsmill continues to bridge historical craftsmanship with modern performance, delivering plasterwork defined by integrity, artistry, and enduring architectural relevance to meet contemporary design and construction demands.
